For almost 20 years, if you had a hard question about SMART TS XL, the trail ended with me.
I wrote it. I built it. I knew every corner of it.
When a client needed to find the most intricate thing buried deep in millions of lines of code, I was the guy. The TOP DOG.
Not anymore.
We were building for someone we hadn’t met yet
From day one, we built SMART TS XL as a technology, not a product. Hundreds of APIs inside. We were always proud that anyone could write code around it.
Turns out we were building for someone we hadn’t met yet.
Today, through our MCP server, an LLM (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, Grok) calls those APIs thousands of times, at the speed of light. With rich SMART TS XL context built into the MCP, it now understands the product better, works faster, and gets more done than its creator.
It makes me a little sad. It was a great feeling to be the master.
It makes me much happier. Because it’s not about finding anymore. It’s about doing.
“Expand this field across the whole mainframe.”
A few minutes later: every program that changes, every risk, test cases, effort, and a full project plan.
An entire project, mapped out in minutes.
The part people miss
The LLM alone can’t do any of this.
ChatGPT doesn’t know your millions of lines of code. SMART TS XL does: every program, every table, every business rule, and how they all connect.
Put the two together and you get something neither could ever do alone.
So the new top dog is the team:
LLM + MCP + SMART TS XL.
And I’m standing on the porch, watching in awe.
